Introduction

There are no quick fixes to improving your performance on the Memory Section of the Postal Exam 473. Working through the interactive memory training section takes time. Often several days. However, those individuals who do complete the memory training section often see dramatic improvement in their performance. In the introduction we introduce several simple strategies that you need to learn before beginning the interactive training. After learning these concepts, begin your training with route combinations.

The Fundamentals

There are three fundamental tips you should remember and deploy while training and completing the final exam. First, the Route List on the memory section is the same as that presented on the coding section. Therefore, you should always begin deploying your memory techniques during the coding section not when you arrive at the memory section.

The second basic technique is strategic. The memory section is right minus wrong. There will always be 8 addresses across 3 route codes that can be organized, if you choose, into 5 memory chunks (more on that later). This is important to remember. Be prepared to go through this memory training multiple times. The first time, use the techniques to try to maximize your score remembering all addresses on the route list. Then, retrace the memory training section. But this time, don't try to memorize all the addresses, remember some of them. The addresses you don't recognize on the exam, leave blank. Often by focusing on a subset of address codes you can improve your overall score.

Finally, the memory strategy section should always be completed in order. The sections will often require use of techniques learned in previous sections. Especially the route combination and stories sections. You will be able to track your position in the training as each section has a scored exam deploying its training technique. Always pick up where you last left off.

Route Combos & Basics

The route combination section provides both a fully featured suite of basic techniques to improve your memory section score & the foundation for all other memory techniques that follow. Do this section first.

Stories & Rhymes

The Stories sections involves breaking down the route list into easy to remember stories & rhymes. You will use an audio enabled game to help learn and practice this concept.

Dialers

The dialers technique involves utilizing muscle memory to memorize the address numbers for use in combination with the stories technique. Make sure to have completed the stories section before continuing here.

Number/Images

Number/Images helps you select vivid images to help remember the address numbers for your stories. It is a mnemonic memory technique that can drastically improve scores by using your imagination.
